A new Cyprus workshop, inspired by Jorge Bucay’s circus elephant parable, uses theatre, movement, and storytelling to explore the “invisible chains” that limit us. In a two-hour session, participants challenge these limits, discover inner strength, and share insights in a final discussion panel.
The event is part of the EU co-funded project Safeguarding of LGBTIQ+ People’s Right to Health (SAFE-R).

In a world filled with both visible and invisible chains, where people often find themselves trapped in predisposed beliefs and old patterns.
Inspired by Jorge Bucay’s story “The Chained Elephant”, this workshop creates an open, playful, creative, and theatrical invitation to explore the chains of our past and present. Together, we will share, reflect, and negotiate with parts of ourselves, with one another, and with the wider social world we inhabit.
This two-hour experiential workshop invites participants into a creative and reflective space where movement, storytelling, and theatrical improvisation become tools for exploring the “chains” we carry, those inherited expectations, internalised patterns, and long-standing narratives that continue to shape our present. Through guided activities participants engage the body, imagination, and collective insight to gently question what holds them back and to recognise moments of inner strength, possibility, and renewal.
The session concludes with a dedicated discussion panel, offering time for thoughtful sharing, mutual inspiration, and the co-creation of new perspectives. This closing dialogue allows participants to weave together their experiences, insights, and creative discoveries in a supportive and open environment.
This workshop is part of the EU co-funded project Safeguarding of LGBTIQ+ People’s Right to Health (SAFE-R).
