Over 300 quakes since November in Cyprus area

Recent 4.1 magnitude quake

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 19:20 local time, recorded by the Geological Survey Department. The department’s announcement notes intense seismic activity in the region, stating that additional quakes cannot be ruled out.

The epicenter lay in the broader Agia Marina Kelokedaron area, 20 kilometers northeast of Paphos city. The quake registered strongly in Paphos and Limassol provinces and was felt in Nicosia province.

Linked to November strong quakes

Prior to this event, two smaller quakes of 2.7 and 3.2 magnitudes occurred. These connect to the two strong earthquakes (M5.2 and M5.3) on November 12, 2025, which triggered a seismic sequence exceeding 300 earthquakes in the same area.

The sequence progresses normally, though this does not preclude further perceptible quakes.

Additional regional activity

On Monday, December 15, 2025, at 11:20, a 3.8 magnitude tremor hit near Antakya on the Turkey-Syria border, 240 kilometers northeast of Famagusta. It registered in Turkey and Syria and was detected in Cyprus.
