With the participation of a large crowd and in a festive atmosphere, the inauguration of the Municipal Park of Colours in Paphos took place on Sunday afternoon. The event coincided with the city’s annual Anthestiria Flower Festival.
The celebration began with a parade of floats and children, accompanied by the Paphos Municipality Philharmonic Band, creating a vibrant and colourful image in the new urban green space. Throughout the day, both children and adults had the opportunity to take part in creative and sporting activities, while musical ensembles and students from the Paphos Municipal Conservatory added an artistic dimension to the event.
The official inauguration was held in front of the park’s café, where the project was presented by the Municipal Engineer, Christos Konstantinidis. This was followed by a brief address by the Mayor of Paphos, Phedonas Phedonos, who described the new park as the largest unified green lung in the centre of Paphos. He noted that the project combines urban redevelopment with the creation of modern facilities for recreation, sport, and cultural activity, and said that its design meets the needs of citizens of all ages.
The Municipal Park of Colours covers a total area of 32,000 square metres and cost €3,062,375.89 to build. It includes, among other features, playgrounds, sports courts, a skatepark, a climbing wall, a botanical and aromatic garden, landscaped rest areas, gathering spaces, and a café. The park has been designed with environmental criteria in mind, aiming to offer daily opportunities for entertainment, exercise, and social interaction for residents and visitors of Paphos.

The event incorporated the annual Anthestiria Festival, a tradition with over 85 years of history in Paphos. The festival was dedicated to spring, nature, aesthetic creation, and the joy of life. The programme included artistic and recreational activities for all ages, with an emphasis on the active participation of children and families.
Among the participating organisations and creative groups were Inspired Family Fun, Kagia Art Studio, the Paphos Municipal Conservatory, and local sports clubs such as Atlas, Akritas Chlorakas, APOP, and the Paphos Tennis Club. Children had the chance to engage with sports through hands-on workshops and activities. The artistic direction of the floats and performances was undertaken by Dance Culture Pafos.
According to the Municipality of Paphos, the creation of the Park of Colours is part of a broader strategic plan to upgrade the urban environment and strengthen the city’s cultural identity, aiming to improve quality of life and enhance citizens’ connection with public space.
