Obama on aliens: “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them”

Date:

Former US President Barack Obama confirmed that aliens are “real” during an interview on Brian Tyler Cohen’s podcast, though he clarified he has not seen them. Speaking about the topic, Obama emphasised that while life elsewhere in the universe is statistically likely, no evidence of contact was observed during his presidency.

Clarifying his comments

Following media attention, Obama took to Instagram to clarify: “Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extra-terrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”

Area 51 and conspiracy theories

Obama also addressed the popular Area 51 theories, stating there is no secret underground facility hiding aliens. “There’s no underground facility, unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States,” he said, dismissing common speculation.

Previous comments on UFOs

The former president has previously spoken about unexplained aerial phenomena. During a 2021 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, he noted that officials investigate aerial objects with unusual movement patterns that are not easily explained.

Respect and decorum in politics

During the podcast, Obama also criticised the loss of “decorum” and respect for the US presidency, referencing racially offensive videos shared online without naming Donald Trump. He said such behaviour undermines the standards that used to guide American leaders.
