A 24-hour warning strike has been decided for today, Holy Tuesday 15/04/2025, from 06:00 a.m. to 06:00 a.m. on Holy Wednesday morning, by the Attica Taxi Drivers’ Union (SATA), in protest against the exclusion of taxis from using bus lanes.
At the same time, a gathering of taxis has been announced for 09:30 a.m. at the junction of Sp. Patsi and Athens Avenue.
In its announcement, SATA states:
“Following the statement made by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Kyranakis, during a radio programme, in which he ruled out allowing taxis carrying passengers to use the bus lanes, the SATA Board convened an emergency meeting. The two opposition factions (United Taxi Movement, Independent Radio Taxi Movement) refused to participate, while Mr. Dimos was absent due to illness.
The Board decided on a 24-hour warning strike to take place on Tuesday 15/04/2025. SATA demands the enforcement of the provisions mentioned in the final version of the new Highway Code, which the government had PUBLICLY committed to, through former Deputy Minister of Transport Vasilis Oikonomou.
The Board is unable to explain the stance of the two opposition factions and leaves it to the judgement of our fellow drivers. In any case, SATA will exhaust every avenue of communication with Mr. Kyranakis in order to resolve, once and for all and without vagueness, the issue of allowing taxis carrying passengers to use the designated traffic lanes.
We will not allow anyone to toy with our dignified livelihood.
If the free passage of taxis carrying passengers is not permitted following the ratification of the new Highway Code, professionals in our industry who commit this specific violation will face a fine of €200, loss of driving licence for one month, and 5 penalty points on the Driver Behaviour Monitoring System (Σ.Ε.Σ.Ο).
Verification of the offence will be done via cameras installed on buses.
It should also be noted that if 25 penalty points are accumulated within a two-year period, we risk permanent loss of our driving licence.
This strike is the only option for our sector and it is a warning!!!”
