A shocking Nicosia murder unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning when a 58-year-old woman was killed in front of her daughter. Police said her ex-husband has confessed to the crime.
The victim was identified as 58-year-old Afsane Mohammadi, from Iran.
According to police, the incident took place around 2:30am at the home where Mohammadi was living with her former husband. She sustained a severe head injury and succumbed to her wounds while being transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital.
Police said they are investigating the Nicosia murder as a possible premeditated crime. The suspect is her 62-year-old ex-husband, also from Iran.
Reports suggest the killing followed an argument between the former couple in the presence of their 35-year-old daughter.
Members of Nicosia CID arrested the 62-year-old on Wednesday morning. He is said to have verbally admitted to the crime and was brought before Nicosia District Court, which ordered his detention for eight days.
A post-mortem examination on the victim’s body is expected to shed further light on the circumstances of the murder.
