Nicosia Municipal Theatre announces new director

Paris Erotokritou, director of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and International Festival, has been officially appointed, Nicosia For Art Ltd confirmed. As a seasoned theatre director, producer, and creative leader, Erotokritou brings extensive local and international experience to the role.

His appointment reflects a clear vision for the future and aligns with the organisation’s mission to expand artistic and cultural impact in Cyprus and abroad.

Responsibilities and vision

As General Director, Erotokritou will oversee the strategic direction of the Municipal Theatre and the International Festival, including artistic programming and international partnerships. He will also prioritise community engagement, educational programmes, and cultural initiatives connecting the theatre with Nicosia’s residents.

The organisation emphasises that his leadership will continue the dynamic trajectory of both the theatre and the festival while broadening their creative horizons.

International experience and achievements

Paris Erotokritou is an award-winning theatre and film director, producer, and artistic director with international recognition. He holds a master’s in directing from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, studied at the Higher Drama School of Athens (G. Theodosiadis), and earned a law degree from King’s College London.

He has worked with prominent UK theatres, including the Barbican, Royal Shakespeare Company, Bush Theatre, and National Youth Theatre UK, collaborating with acclaimed creators such as Declan Donnellan, Nadia Latif, and Kerry Michael.

Contributions to Cyprus theatre

Erotokritou founded Fresh Target Theatre Ensemble in 2010, producing landmark works in Cyprus, and established Sputnik Theatre in Nicosia in 2015, fostering new talent, supporting Cypriot dramaturgy, and implementing educational and community initiatives.

His directing credits span major Cypriot stages and festivals, including the Cyprus International Festival, International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama, THOC, Rialto Theatre, Cyprus Theatre Festival, Nicosia Festival, Paphos – European Capital of Culture 2017, and the 2012 Cyprus EU Council Presidency.

International collaborations and productions

Erotokritou has collaborated with theatres in Greece and worldwide, participating in festivals such as Holland Festival, Craiova International Shakespeare Festival, Brighton Festival, and Taiwan National Theatre. As a producer, he has brought international productions including Adolf, Churchill, and The Fawlty Towers Dining Experience to Cyprus and Greece.

In 2025, he founded the Shakespeare on the Mountain festival, the first event in the Southeast Mediterranean dedicated to Shakespeare, featuring international guests and collaborations.
