Nicosia arrest after police open fire on car

On Wednesday night a 23-year-old man was the subject of a Nicosia arrest following a dramatic police intervention involving warning shots.

According to initial reports, officers from the Z-unit patrol attempted to stop a vehicle that was being driven aggressively and without licence plates. When the driver allegedly tried to attack them, police responded by firing at the car’s tyres to immobilise it.

The suspect was quickly arrested. During a search of the vehicle, police discovered 17 grams of cannabis, 13 grams of methamphetamine, and 6 grams of cocaine.

The Nicosia arrest has raised questions over how far police are willing to go to neutralise potentially dangerous suspects. No injuries were reported, and investigations are still underway.

Authorities say the Nicosia arrest highlights their ongoing efforts to crack down on drug-related crime and violence against officers.
