Police officers face criminal charges over viral video

Date:

Two police officers in Cyprus face criminal charges after a video surfaced showing them engaging in sexual activity outside a patrol car.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), police spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou confirmed that both individuals- one man and one woman- are under investigation for three separate criminal offences: neglect of duty, committing an indecent act, and being the principal offender under the Penal Code.

Lambrianidou noted that the police officers face criminal charges both at a disciplinary and criminal level. She also confirmed that the pair have already been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

The video in question, reportedly recorded by a passerby in Larnaca, has been circulating widely online since Tuesday. It appears to show the two officers engaging in a sexual act next to a parked patrol vehicle in an open area of the city.

Initial forensic analysis suggests the video is authentic. Lambrianidou stated that the investigative process is still ongoing, with police collecting witness testimony and reviewing evidence. “If additional offences are uncovered, further charges will be filed,” she said.

Asked whether the officers had given official statements, Lambrianidou declined to comment. However, she did confirm that one of the two police officers was off duty at the time of the incident.

The police officers face criminal charges under scrutiny from both the public and the authorities, as the force seeks to address the incident transparently.
