Angelos Nikolaou, the newly elected President of the Cyprus Police Association (SAK), has pledged that the union will remain the voice of all police officers, from the youngest recruit to the most experienced veteran.
In his first message to members, Nikolaou said:
“With deep emotion and a strong sense of responsibility, I stand before you today as the new President of the Cyprus Police Association. Your trust is the highest honour and a great obligation for me to serve every colleague who proudly wears the uniform and fulfils their duty.”
He praised the daily professionalism, composure, and dedication of Cyprus police officers in protecting lives, property, and institutions.
Key priorities for the new leadership
- Improving working conditions and raising new issues with the employer
- Continuous training and professional development
- Introducing artificial intelligence tools to support police work
- Strengthening cooperation with local (Ministry of Justice, Police HQ, PASYDY) and international bodies (C.E.S.P.)
- Reforming promotion and transfer regulations for fairer use of human resources
- Above all: rebuilding public trust – “The citizen is the reason we exist. The Police is not against society – it is part of it.”
Nikolaou concluded:
“Only through transparency, respect, and cooperation can we build the Police we all want: humane, effective, modern, and deeply democratic. Our strength lies not in individuals, but in our collective voice and shared mission.”
He thanked PASYDY for its constant support and called on members to build the future together with respect for the past, determination in the present, and vision for tomorrow.
