The talks between Israel and Lebanon focus on dismantling Hezbollah and achieving long-term peace, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, as tensions continue to rise in the region.
In a video message released on Wednesday night, Netanyahu said Israel–Lebanon talks pursue two main goals: dismantling Hezbollah and securing what he described as a “lasting peace based on strength”.
He made the comments one day after reported direct Israel–Lebanon discussions in Washington, held under United States mediation.
Israel maintains military pressure in southern Lebanon
Netanyahu said Israeli forces continue strikes against Hezbollah and prepare to “destroy” the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil, as international pressure for a ceasefire grows.
He also ordered the military to strengthen a security zone in southern Lebanon.
US keeps Israel updated on Iran contacts
Netanyahu said the United States regularly updates Israel on its contacts with Iran, stressing close coordination between the two allies.
He added that Israel–Lebanon talks and wider regional negotiations align closely with shared US–Israeli objectives.
Netanyahu linked Lebanon negotiations with the Iran nuclear issue, saying both Israel and the United States share the same goals.
He said both sides want Iran to remove highly enriched uranium stockpiles, end domestic enrichment, and open the Strait of Hormuz.
Netanyahu said Israel prepares for any scenario if ceasefire efforts with Iran fail, highlighting ongoing uncertainty across several regional fronts.
