National Guard SMS alerts to notify reservists in Cyprus

Date:

The National Guard has introduced a new system of SMS alerts to improve communication with reservists and territorial guards.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the digital notification platform will send text messages directly to mobile phones, reminding reservists one month in advance of their scheduled presentation date, issuing emergency calls for participation in exercises (not exceeding one hour), and notifying them of mobilisation obligations.

To avoid being flagged as spam, the sender ID of the SMS messages will appear as “ARMY CY.”

Reservists and territorial guards who are not receiving messages may have outdated or incorrect contact details in the mobilisation system. They are required to contact their unit or mobilisation office to check and update their information.

If a message is received by mistake, it will include a contact number to request correction of records in the mobilisation database.

The Ministry of Defence also reminded that a reservist is considered “mobilisation compliant” only if they possess an Individual Call-Up Order (FAP) for the current year or if the reasons for temporary suspension of service still apply.

When reporting to units or mobilisation offices, reservists and territorial guards must bring their ID card or other official Republic of Cyprus document confirming identity, along with their Special Route Order.
