Narendra Modi and Nikos Christodoulides announced the strategic upgrading of Cyprus-India relations following their bilateral meeting in New Delhi.
During joint statements, Modi said the relationship between the two countries has “stood the test of time”, adding that the friendship is both strong and future-oriented.
“Our shared belief in values such as democracy and the rule of law forms the foundation of our cooperation,” Modi said, noting that the new strategic partnership gives “fresh momentum and speed” to bilateral ties.
Economic cooperation and investment growth
The Indian Prime Minister highlighted that Cyprus is among the top ten investors in India, with Cypriot investments nearly doubling over the past decade.
He added that both sides aim to further double investment flows over the next five years, supported by emerging opportunities linked to the India–EU free trade agreement.
Modi also underlined India’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.

Strong political symbolism and past visits
The Indian leader referred to his recent visit to Cyprus, saying he received a warm welcome and noting Christodoulides’ “particular respect” for India.
“Your visit today marks another important milestone in our shared journey,” Modi said.
Ukraine and Middle East discussed
The two leaders also discussed global developments, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Modi said both countries support efforts to end ongoing wars and back peaceful resolutions to international crises.
He also stressed the need for reform of global institutions to better address modern geopolitical challenges.
Strategic partnership signals deeper alignment
The announcement marks a significant step in Cyprus India relations, reinforcing cooperation in diplomacy, investment, and global policy coordination.
