MIGS creates digital platform for women facing gender-based violence

Date:

The Pharos platform was officially launched in Cyprus, aiming to provide essential information and support for women experiencing gender-based and domestic violence. The initiative brings together key resources in one accessible digital space, addressing gaps in awareness and access to services.

Developed by the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS), the platform offers guidance on legal rights, available services, and support mechanisms for women across the Republic.

Access to rights and services

The Pharos platform serves as a comprehensive information hub, helping users navigate the justice system and connect with both state and non-state support services. It includes details on legal procedures, referral pathways, and contact points for assistance.

According to MIGS, access to reliable information remains a major challenge for victims, particularly in times of crisis or vulnerability. The platform aims to strengthen this access and empower women to seek help safely and effectively.

Developed through consultation

Before its official rollout, the Pharos platform was tested during a pilot phase. Women who have experienced violence, as well as frontline professionals and support networks, contributed feedback that shaped the final version.

The project also includes awareness materials, such as a short informational video designed to inform the public and promote the platform’s use.

Call for public awareness

MIGS is urging organisations, professionals and the public to promote the platform to ensure it reaches women in need across Cyprus. The initiative aligns with national legislation and international commitments to protect victims of violence and improve access to information.
