A detailed announcement on the findings of the investigation into the book “Mafia State” will be issued before the end of June 2026, the Independent Authority Against Corruption has confirmed.
The authority stressed that calls for early publication of the findings ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections cannot be accepted.
Strict confidentiality maintained during process
The authority said all procedures related to the “Mafia State” investigation are being carried out under strict confidentiality, as required by law.
It added that no official position can be taken on the content of the report until all established procedures have been completed, including review and evaluation by the Authority.
An internal working group has been appointed to examine the findings.
The Authority rejected claims linking the timing of the report’s release to the parliamentary elections scheduled for 24 May 2026.
It stressed that the timing of the announcement, expected before the end of June, is not influenced by electoral considerations.
Investigation involved extensive evidence gathering
According to the Authority, the final report was submitted electronically on 30 April 2026 by four investigation officers.
The “Mafia State” inquiry included:
- 214 hearings and sessions
- 150 witness testimonies
- Evidence from 41 organisations and government departments
- 793 submitted exhibits
- Approximately 3,000 pages of documentation
The Authority described the volume of material as “extensive”.
The Authority also clarified that delays in the process were due to health issues affecting two of the four investigating officers.
It warned against speculation or claims of political motives behind the timeline.
Final announcement expected before end of June
Once internal procedures are completed, the Authority will issue a detailed public statement on the contents of the “Mafia State” investigation.
It emphasised that no further comments will be made by its members until the official announcement is published.
