The swift response of Limassol lifeguards saved the life of a man with heart problems after he fell into the sea, a member of the city’s Lifeguard Unit has revealed.
Speaking on SIGMA’s Protoselido programme, Sakis Nicolaou of the Limassol Lifeguard Unit said the incident took place yesterday in the sea off the CTO area.
The man fell into the water and was rescued following the immediate intervention of lifeguards.
Calls for improvements to lifeguard service
Nicolaou was speaking to SIGMA’s Limassol correspondent Vangelis Evangelou about longstanding issues facing lifeguards and improvements he believes are needed.
Among the concerns raised were lifeguard working hours and the need for additional recruitment.
During the interview, Nicolaou highlighted the previous day’s rescue as an example of the importance of having Limassol lifeguards ready to respond quickly when emergencies occur.
The timely intervention of his colleagues, he said, ultimately saved the man’s life.
