Police in Cyprus are investigating a new case of online fraud after two men from Limassol reported losing €30,000 in a suspected Limassol investment scam.
According to the complaint filed with the Limassol CID, the victims, aged 63 and 66, registered their details on an investment-related website in February 2025. Soon after, they were contacted by an unknown individual who presented supposed investment plans that promised high returns.
The two men were persuaded to grant the suspect remote access to their computers. This allowed the fraudster to access their bank accounts and transfer a total of €30,050 to accounts abroad.
The victims only realised they had been deceived when the website falsely showed that their investments had generated profits. When they requested to withdraw funds, the suspect demanded further payments instead.
The case is being investigated by the Financial Crime Investigation Office of the Limassol CID. Police are urging the public to exercise caution when engaging in online transactions or investments, and to work only with recognised companies and licensed financial advisers.
Authorities stressed that personal data, online passwords, and banking information must never be disclosed to third parties, as such details can be exploited by criminals.
