Prime Minister announces day of mourning for victims
Lebanon has declared Thursday, 9 April, a day of national mourning following a series of deadly Israeli airstrikes that killed nearly 200 people in the country on Wednesday.
“This will be a national day of mourning for the martyrs and the injured in the Israeli attacks, which targeted hundreds of innocent and defenseless civilians,” said Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, according to a press release from his office.
Call for political and diplomatic action
The Prime Minister emphasised the need to “mobilise all political and diplomatic resources of Lebanon to stop the Israeli machine of death,” highlighting the country’s urgent response to the crisis.
Latest casualty figures
According to the latest unofficial figures from Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, the attacks have claimed at least 182 lives and left 890 people injured, with numbers still expected to rise as reports continue to come in.
