Cyprus rainfall levels have surged to 220% of the seasonal norm for May, up to Monday the 25th, with several regions recording more than three times the average monthly precipitation.
According to meteorological data, the average rainfall across the free areas of the island from the beginning of the month has reached 43.2 millimetres, compared with the normal May average of 19.6 millimetres.
Regional rainfall extremes
The highest exceedance compared to normal levels was recorded at the Paphos International Airport, which reached 394% of its typical rainfall for the month.
In Polis Chrysochous, rainfall reached 375%, while the Stavros tis Psokas recorded 364%.
At the New Limassol Port, levels reached 360% of the seasonal average.
Highest and lowest rainfall readings
In absolute terms, the highest rainfall since the beginning of May was recorded at Stavros tis Psokas, with 99 millimetres.
The lowest amount was recorded at Larnaca International Airport, which received just 13.6 millimetres.
Above-average rainfall since October
Since 1 October, total rainfall across the free areas has reached 116% of the seasonal average.
Total precipitation now stands at 566.3 millimetres, compared with the normal seasonal average of 487 millimetres, with all monitored regions exceeding expected levels.
Meteorologists note that the figures reflect a significantly wetter period than usual across Cyprus.
