Larnaca public transport strike continues into second day

Date:

The 48-hour strike by Larnaca Public Transport workers is continuing for a second day, with unions calling on the Ministry of Labour to ensure that the company honours its collective agreement.

The strike, launched yesterday by 120 employees, was prompted by what the Ministry of Labour has described as a “blatant violation” of the agreement.

Speaking to CNA, Nadia Kyritsi, General Secretary of the union SEGDAMELIN PEO, said a general assembly of workers and unions will be held at 5 p.m. to review the strike’s progress and discuss any developments before deciding the next steps.

Kyritsi emphasised that the unions are acting within the framework of the Industrial Relations Code, respecting agreements and procedures. She added that the Ministry’s decision confirms the violation and expressed hope that the employer will now be called to comply.
