The Larnaca bus drivers strike has ended after 10 days of industrial action, with drivers set to return to work tomorrow morning. In a General Assembly held today, drivers approved the new mediation proposal from the Ministry of Labour, reached following lengthy talks yesterday between Minister Yiannis Panayiotou and representatives of the PEO, SEK, and DEOK unions.
During yesterday’s extended meeting at the Ministry of Labour, important clarifications were made. Any comments on route cards will not be implemented under the collective agreement, and objections regarding the functionality of scheduling cards will be reviewed by the competent ministries. The timetable for joint reviews of breaks and routes has also been moved forward to the last ten days of the month.
Under the new proposal, drivers will keep the one-hour break that had been disputed by the company, overtime beyond seven hours and 36 minutes will be paid from the first minute, and breaks previously omitted from route cards- and therefore unpaid- will now be recorded and paid.
