A Greek doctor is under investigation after arriving in Cyprus from Greece on 24 October with five vials of a product used in cosmetic procedures and a vial of anaesthetic liquid, none of which had marketing authorisation in the Republic of Cyprus.
According to information, Customs Department officers, following an assessment of intelligence and with significant assistance from members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN), identified the passenger at Larnaca Airport and searched his luggage.
During the physical inspection, officers found five packages (vials) containing a liquid used in cosmetic procedures, as well as a vial of anaesthetic liquid also used in such treatments.
The products were detained by Customs officers, who subsequently requested instructions from the Pharmaceutical Services on how to proceed.
Products seized over lack of marketing authorisation
On 27 October, Customs officers were informed by the Pharmaceutical Services that the products did not have marketing authorisation in the Republic of Cyprus.
They therefore proceeded with their seizure on the grounds of a violation of Article 9 of the Medicines for Human Use (Quality, Supply and Prices Control) Law 70(I)/2001.
Authorities did not arrest the doctor, while the case remains under further investigation by Larnaca Customs.
