Labour Department warns about 14 hazardous consumer products

The Cyprus Labour Department has issued a warning regarding 14 products found in EU markets, including tools, jewelry, clothing, and toys, which contain hazardous chemical substances. Consumers are advised to report any of these products found in Cyprus to the Department’s officers.

Products and associated risks

The products have been registered in the RAPEX system (Rapid Alert System for non-food consumer products). Key items include:

  • Powerbank (MW-20230120) – Sold online, found in Sweden. Contains DBP and SCCPs, which are reproductive toxins and persistent organic pollutants.
  • BIGTOYS soft toys (587B) – From Poland, contains DEHP exceeding legal limits.
  • XL Tools sets and pliers – From Finland, contain DEHP above legal limits.
  • ML Little sister doll (6369) – From Slovenia, contains DEHP in plastic parts.
  • Anorak jacket (RKN153 PID-00002641) – From France, contains PFCA C9-C14 and PFAS, persistent organic pollutants.
  • BLOW projector – From Sweden, contains DEHP, DBP, and SCCPs.
  • Power Style flashlight (73282391) – From Sweden, contains DEHP and SCCPs.
  • VITATEKA boric acid – From Germany, prohibited for consumer sale.
  • BYYSJ10059 body jewelry – From Finland, contains high cadmium, harmful to kidneys, bones, and carcinogenic.
  • Raticide 70 rodenticide (6192401700277) – From France, missing required hazard labeling.
  • Shein jacket (EXPLOREWE) and Zosee jacket (VNY243564) – From France, contain PFCA C9-C14 and PFAS.
  • Clover Jewellery Set earrings (L469) – From Poland, contain high cadmium levels.

Consumer advisory

The Department urges citizens to check for these products and report them immediately to ensure public safety. Many of these substances are toxic, reproductive hazards, or persistent organic pollutants, and some products are sold without proper safety labeling.
