Danish King Frederick X made a special mention of Cyprus’s role as a pillar of peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean when he received the credentials of the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Denmark, Panayiotis Kyriakou, on 6 November at the Amalienborg Palace.

Cyprus and Denmark enjoy strong and friendly bilateral relations, characterised by mutual respect and cooperation in various fields. Both nations share common values and work closely on issues such as regional stability, peacekeeping, and humanitarian efforts. Recent diplomatic engagements underscore the commitment to further strengthening ties and collaboration on shared challenges.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on Wednesday, during a private meeting that followed the formal ceremony, Mr Kyriakou conveyed the warm regards of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and spoke about the excellent level of relations between the two countries, expressing his commitment to further deepen these ties.

The statement adds that Mr Kyriakou also briefed King Frederick on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and the President’s efforts to resume negotiations.

In this context, he expressed the Cypriot Government’s gratitude for the service of Danish soldiers in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Mr Kyriakou also spoke about Cyprus’s stabilising role in the region, mentioning, among other things, the “Amalthea” initiative to send humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The Danish King reciprocated the warm greetings to President Christodoulides, highlighting Cyprus’s positive role as a stabilising force in the Eastern Mediterranean. He also expressed his satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations between Cyprus and Denmark, emphasising the desire to continue strengthening them.
