Israeli tycoon urges boycott of President Christodoulides’ US visit

Date:

Israeli businessman and usurper of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied areas, Yaakov (Jack) Aykout Afik, is calling on Jewish groups in the United States to boycott the meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides during his current visit to the US.

According to a statement from his company, Afik is demanding the immediate release of his 75-year-old father, Shimon Aykout, who has been held in prison in Cyprus for the past nine months without trial, as he claims.

“Mr Aykout is accused of an unprecedented offence that has never been prosecuted before, relating to alleged illegal trade of land belonging to Greek Cypriot refugees following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus fifty years ago.”

Afik and his father are seeking millions in compensation for the unjust and prolonged detention of Mr Aykout, who, despite his serious health condition, remains among the general prison population. In their appeal against the Republic of Cyprus, they cite the legal opinion of Cambridge University Professor Eyal Benvenisti, which has been submitted to the European Court of Human Rights, the company’s statement reads.

Furthermore, posters opposing President Christodoulides have been hung outside Afik’s company offices in Israel.
