Israel says Hamas military leader likely dead

Date:

Hours after the Israeli military struck a building in Gaza City on Tuesday evening, targeting the new leader of Hamas’ military wing in the Palestinian enclave, an Israeli security official told broadcaster Keshet 12 that Mohammed Ouda is believed to be dead.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the operation in a post on X, saying Israel had targeted Ouda, whom he described as one of the architects of the 7 October 2023 attack.

“Tonight, we attacked Mohammed Ouda in Gaza – the leader of Hamas’ military wing and one of the architects of the massacre of 7 October 2023. We will reach everyone,” Netanyahu wrote, without providing further details.

Ouda recently assumed Hamas military leadership

Mohammed Ouda had recently succeeded Izz ad-Din al-Haddad as head of the Al Qassam Brigades after Haddad was killed in an Israeli air strike on 15 May.

Civil defence reports fatalities in Gaza City

The Civil Defence service in Gaza said three people were killed in the Israeli strike in the Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza City, including a woman.

The incident comes amid continued Israeli military operations across the Gaza Strip and rising regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict.
