Iran says Strait of Hormuz closure will last until US attacks end

Iran threatens further energy route closures

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced early on Wednesday that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until US “aggressive actions” end, while also threatening to shut other routes vital to energy exports in the region, according to a statement broadcast by state television network IRIB.

The US armed forces launched a new series of strikes against Iran on Tuesday and announced that they had again imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in the Gulf.

“The retaliatory operations (…) will continue, and the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the US ends its aggressive actions,” the statement said.

“The enemy (…) should also expect the closure of other oil and gas export routes that serve the interests of the US and its allies,” it added.

“Oil and gas exports from the region will either be accessible to everyone, or to no one,” the statement stressed.
