Iran: Possible resurgence of conflict with the United States

Date:

Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior official of the central command of the Iranian military, stated that “a resurgence of conflict between Iran and the United States is possible,” according to the Iranian news agency Fars.

At the same time, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, accused Donald Trump of admitting that the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports amounts to “piracy.” He added that the U.S. president is “boasting that American forces act like pirates.” In a post on X, Baghaei said this was not a slip of the tongue but an “admission of the criminal nature of actions against international maritime navigation.”

The White House declined to provide details about Iran’s latest proposal, but the news site Axios reported that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff had submitted amendments to a previous proposal concerning Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iran’s delegation to the United Nations also pointed to the vast U.S. nuclear arsenal, accusing Washington on Saturday of “hypocritical behavior.”
