Influenza A surges after holidays, seasonal rise in admissions

Date:

Public hospitals recorded increased flu A admissions after New Year’s, OKYPY spokesman Charalambos Charilaou told CNA, noting this annual January-to-April pattern with seasonal viruses remains within expected bounds and non-alarming.

“Flu A admissions rose in public facilities, fitting the season’s norm,” he said. Facilities stand ready for surges in Accident & Emergency departments and wards.

Holiday absences strain A&E

No overeating cases noted; uptick stems from private doctors’ holiday absences shifting load to A&E. “Festive periods saw higher A&E turnout since personal and specialist physicians took leave, but all handled adequately,” Charilaou explained.

Rapid patient clinics operated uninterrupted, processing non-urgents swiftly with satisfied outcomes.
