Inflation in Cyprus recorded a negative rate for the second consecutive month in June, according to data released by the Statistical Service on Thursday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 0.4% in June 2025 compared to June 2024. This follows a 0.2% drop recorded in May.
The Statistical Service also reported a monthly decrease of 0.2% in June compared to May 2025. For the period of January to June 2025, the CPI increased by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2024.
More specifically, the Consumer Price Index for June 2025 decreased by 0.29 points, reaching 117.28 points from 117.57 in May 2025. The rate of inflation for June stood at –0.4%, compared to –0.2% in May and +2.4% in April.
Biggest price changes by sector
Compared to June 2024, the biggest price decrease was observed in Electricity with a change of –15.4%, followed by Petroleum Products at –2.5%. In contrast, the largest annual price increases were in Restaurants and Hotels at +4.4% and Services at +3.2%.
From May 2025 to June 2025, the most notable decrease was again in Petroleum Products, which dropped by –3.6%, followed by Electricity with –2.2%, and Clothing and Footwear at –2.2%. The category that saw the highest monthly increase was Restaurants and Hotels, which rose by +0.5%.
As for the overall change in the CPI for the period January–June 2025, the main contributors were Restaurants and Hotels with an increase of +4.7%, followed by Health at +4.4%, and Education at +2.9%. The biggest decreases were seen in Electricity at –9.9% and Petroleum Products at –3.3%.

Inflation continued to decline in July by 0.9%
The Consumer Price Index fell again in July 2025, recording a decrease of 0.9% compared to July 2024. This marks the third consecutive month of negative inflation, reflecting easing price pressures across multiple sectors.
The CPI for July 2025 decreased by 0.63 points, reaching 116.65 points compared to 117.28 in June 2025. Compared to June, the monthly inflation rate was –0.5%.
From January to July 2025, the Consumer Price Index increased by 1.0% compared to the same period in 2024.

Detailed breakdown – July 2025
According to the data, the biggest annual price decreases in July were again in Electricity (–17.7%) and Petroleum Products (–6.1%). These declines are consistent with the global drop in energy costs. On the other hand, the highest annual increases were observed in Restaurants and Hotels at +3.9%, Clothing and Footwear at +3.4%, and Education at +3.0%.
On a month-to-month basis (June to July 2025), the largest price drops were in Clothing and Footwear, which fell by –12.4%, and Transport, which decreased by –1.6%. These are partly seasonal, linked to summer sales and lower fuel demand. The highest price increase was in Recreation and Culture, which rose by +2.4%.
For the January–July 2025 period, prices in Restaurants and Hotels increased by +4.4%, followed by Health at +4.1%, and Education at +2.9%. The largest declines continued to be in Electricity (–11.4%) and Petroleum Products (–4.1%).
