In 1994, they predicted modern internet capability

Back then, people talked about online shopping, video calls, working from home and watching movies on demand like it was pure science fiction. Today we call it Netflix, Zoom, food delivery and “share your location.”

The funniest part? They were genuinely worried whether old phone lines could handle the future and debating if fibre optics were even necessary. Fast forward 30 years and we act like civilisation is collapsing if the Wi-Fi stops working for 10 seconds.

And in Cyprus? A few years later we were listening to dial-up modems sounding like a fax machine having an existential crisis while someone shouted from the other room: “Get off the internet, I need the phone!”

From internet cafés and MSN Messenger to paying bills, ordering food and video calling relatives abroad from our pockets.

So the real question is: in 30 years, will people laugh at us for thinking AI, humanoid robots and smart glasses replacing phones sounded ridiculously futuristic?
