Detailed weather forecast

The low-pressure system named ELENA, centred in the southern Adriatic Sea, is moving southeast and will begin to affect the island, primarily from tomorrow, Christmas Day.

Today, Christmas Eve, after the dissipation of local fog, the weather will initially be partly cloudy, with isolated showers expected mainly in the west. Gradually, however, the weather will become mostly cloudy, with localised rain expected, and isolated thunderstorms possible, starting in the west and south and progressively spreading to other parts of the island. In the highest mountainous areas, sleet or even snow may fall. Winds will be south to south-westerly, light to moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and gradually in windward coastal areas, moderate to strong, and temporarily strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will generally be slightly rough, but by the afternoon, it will become moderately rough in the west, south, and north, and later rough. The temperature will rise to around 17 degrees Celsius inland, about 19 degrees on the coasts, and around 7 degrees in the highest mountainous areas.

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with isolated showers expected mainly in the western half of the island. In the highest mountainous areas, sleet or snow is not ruled out. Winds will continue to blow from southern directions, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and in windward coastal areas, moderate to strong and temporarily strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough in the east, rough in the south, and moderately rough to rough in the west and north. The temperature will drop to around 8 degrees Celsius inland, about 12 degrees on the coasts, and around 4 degrees in the highest mountainous areas, where frost is expected to form locally.

On Wednesday, Christmas Day, the weather will initially be partly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly in the west and south. However, by midday, it will become mostly cloudy, with localised rain and isolated thunderstorms, starting in the western half of the island and progressively spreading to other areas. Hail may fall during thunderstorms, while snow or sleet is expected in the highest mountainous areas. A strengthened southerly wind field will prevail in the region, gradually weakening by the afternoon. The temperature is not expected to undergo significant change, remaining close to average climatic values.

On Thursday and Friday, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with periods of localised rain and isolated thunderstorms. Hail may occur during thunderstorms, and snow or sleet is expected in the highest mountainous areas.

Temperatures will drop on Thursday and remain at similar levels on Friday, positioning slightly below the average climatic values for the season.
