Immediate evacuation at Paphos airport

Date:

Authorities in Cyprus issued an emergency alert at Paphos airport after radar detected a suspicious flying object, reportedly a drone, around 12:15 local time. Passengers and airport personnel were instructed to evacuate immediately as a precautionary measure.

Context of heightened security

The alert follows recent drone attacks targeting the British bases at Akrotiri. In response, the Minister of Interior instructed the Mayor of Kourion to carry out a mandatory evacuation in the nearby area, with several residents already leaving their homes for safety.

Coordinated response by local authorities

The airport management coordinated with civil defence teams to ensure safe evacuation and maintain public safety. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of calm while investigations are ongoing.
