Hundreds of scooter complaints across Cyprus in two days

Date:

Police recorded 526 mobility device violations during a nationwide campaign targeting the safe and lawful use of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) between August 7 and 9.

The campaign was aimed at improving road safety and promoting proper compliance with the legislation governing PMDs.

Police officers carried out checks across all districts, issuing complaints for offences while also informing users about their obligations and safe road-use rules.

Most violations concerned where devices were used

Of the 526 complaints recorded, 219 concerned the areas where personal mobility devices were being used.

A further 116 complaints involved failure to wear a protective helmet, while 86 concerned the failure to use fluorescent markings.

Police also recorded 23 complaints for failure to use lights and 82 other violations of the relevant legislation.

As part of the police checks, 28 personal mobility devices were also seized.

Second nationwide campaign in days

The latest operation was the second nationwide campaign targeting PMD users in recent days.

Between July 31 and August 2, police recorded another 516 complaints for violations of the relevant legislation.

These included 249 complaints concerning where PMDs were being used, 103 for failure to wear a protective helmet, 89 for failure to use fluorescent markings and 21 for failure to use lights.

A further 54 complaints concerned other violations.

Police continue daily road checks

Police said the results highlight the need for continuous public awareness, responsible behaviour and compliance with road traffic legislation.

Observing road rules is not only a legal obligation but also a basic requirement for safe travel, police said.

Daily traffic checks will continue across Cyprus, with particular emphasis on compliance with road traffic rules by all road users.

The aim is to prevent road collisions and further improve road safety.
