Parliament convenes to elect committee members

The plenary session of the House of Representatives will convene on Thursday afternoon and is expected to elect the members of the House Selection Committee.

Ahead of the plenary session, party leaders will hold a new leaders’ meeting. Following the conclusion of parliamentary proceedings, the newly elected House Selection Committee will meet for the first time to discuss the composition and chairmanships of the parliamentary committees.

Committee chairs to be approved next week

The committee chairmanships will subsequently be put to a vote during the next plenary session on June 18, before the parliamentary committees begin their legislative work.

Expected composition of the committee

According to reports, the House Selection Committee will consist of three MPs from DISY – Savia Orphanidou, Dimitris Demetriou, and Giorgos Karoullas – as well as three MPs from AKEL – Stefanos Stefanou, Giorgos Loukaides, and Aristos Damianou.

The committee is also expected to include one MP from DIKO, Panicos Leonidou, and one MP from ELAM, Linos Papayiannis.

House President Annita Demetriou will participate in the committee ex officio.
