UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus Maria Angela Holguin is expected to arrive on the island today, Thursday, as efforts continue to prepare for the next round of contacts between the two communities.
The United Nations announced last week that Holguin would visit Cyprus on October 29, ahead of a trilateral meeting scheduled for November 9, 2026, with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman.
The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity to continue discussions on the Cyprus issue.
Christodoulides describes latest meeting as constructive
President Christodoulides recently described his meeting with Erhurman as “very good and constructive”, saying discussions would continue during Holguin’s presence in Cyprus.
He also clarified that the decision not to issue a joint statement after the meeting was agreed by both sides and did not indicate a deadlock in the talks.
Technical committees and advisory body discussions
The second part of the meeting involved contacts with the Technical Committees and the Advisory Body.
Christodoulides described these discussions as constructive, noting that the views and proposals presented would be examined during his next meetings with Erhurman.
Holguin’s visit comes as preparations continue for the November 9 trilateral meeting, with attention focused on maintaining dialogue between the two community leaders.
