Heatwave continues as temperatures near 40°C

Date:

Cyprus is sweltering under soaring summer temperatures, as the heatwave continues with no relief in sight. The Meteorological Service has issued a new yellow weather warning, in effect from 12:00 to 17:00 today.

Today’s weather will be mostly clear, though patches of low cloud may form along coastal areas. By midday, some mountain regions could see local cloud build-up, with a slight chance of brief isolated showers.

Winds will blow mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at 3–4 Beaufort inland, strengthening to 4–5 Beaufort along the coasts. The sea will generally be slightly rough.

Daytime temperatures are expected to reach around 40°C inland, 35°C on the southern and eastern coasts, 31°C on the western coast, and 32°C in higher mountainous areas.

Tonight, low clouds and patchy mist are forecast, particularly in inland and eastern regions during the early morning hours. Winds will remain light, mostly variable at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will be calm to slightly rough.

Overnight lows will dip to 24°C inland, 23°C along the coast, and 22°C in the mountains.

Looking ahead to Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, mostly clear skies will prevail, with occasional low clouds and morning mist inland and in the east. Temperatures will remain stable as the heatwave continues to raise temperatures that exceed seasonal averages.
