Greek Cypriot freed under conditions in occupied areas

Date:

A Greek Cypriot man, detained in the occupied areas of Nicosia, was released under conditions by the “district court” on Tuesday. He must appear before a “military court” on Thursday, 19 February, over a separate charge.

Arrest and initial charge

The man was arrested on 10 February near Gerolakkos while collecting greens. Authorities in the occupied areas accused him of “illegal possession of explosives” after finding 16 shotgun cartridges in his vehicle.

The “district court” ordered his release after he signed a guarantee of 1 million Turkish lira.

Pending military charge

The Greek Cypriot faces an additional charge of entering a “military forbidden zone.” This case is scheduled for Thursday, 19 February, at the “military court” in occupied Nicosia.
