The regulatory authorities of Greece and Cyprus expressed their support of the electricity linking project of Greece, Cyprus, and Israel (the Great Sea Interconnector project) at a meeting in Athens on Thursday.
Greece’s Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy & waters (RAAEY) and the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) met with the administration of the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO).
In a statement, IPTO said that the discussing among the three sides was particularly constructive on the project, which is of strategic importance for all involved countries and the European Union. It also noted that RAAEY and CERA requested to be fully updated on the project’s development, while they confirmed to IPTO their support for the completion of the Great Sea Interconnector project. They backed it up with letters of support to the European Commission, for the renewed inclusion of the project in the lists of Projects of Common Interest and Projects of Mutual Interest (PCI/PMI).
It should be noted that the regular review of projects on the PCI/PMI list took place in Brussels on Thursday, at the 5th Meeting of Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) Regional Groups on electricity and offshore.
