Access to the GeSY website is currently restricted to users connecting from Cyprus and Greece only, in what has been described as a temporary security measure. Marios Tsiakouris, Director of the IT Department at the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO), told CNA that they hope to restore full international access by early September.
The restriction, he explained, is not new but has recently drawn attention after a message was sent to beneficiaries on Monday. The notification stated that access to the GeSY website and its portals is temporarily limited to users in Cyprus and Greece due to security precautions.
Tsiakouris clarified that the message was issued because the HIO received calls from doctors and beneficiaries currently abroad on summer holidays, who were unable to log into the system.
“It is a temporary measure. We hope to restore access by early September,” he said. When asked whether the restriction was triggered by a cyberattack, Tsiakouris stressed that no such incident had occurred. Instead, he said, it was a preventive security measure aimed at safeguarding the system.
