GESY referrals for specialist doctors extended to 12 months

Date:

The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) has announced that, as of 31 July, the validity period for short-term referrals to Specialist Doctors will be extended from six to twelve months from the date of issue. The number of allowed visits remains two per short-term referral.

According to the HIO statement, the change applies only to referrals issued on or after 31 July. Referrals issued prior to this date will retain their original six-month validity.

The decision was made based on documented requests from the scientific associations of Personal and Specialist Doctors, as well as the knowledge and experience gained since the launch of the General Healthcare System (GeSy).

“This new regulation provides Gesy beneficiaries with better service and greater flexibility by giving them more time to schedule their visits to Specialist Doctors,” the announcement said.
