The body of former Cyprus President George Vassiliou lies in state today at Church of God’s Wisdom in Strovolos from 10:00 to 17:00 for public homage.
Authorities also open condolence books today for the former President’s passing. The main book opens in the Presidential Palace event hall. This morning, the President and Cabinet members sign it first.
State officials sign from 10:30 to 12:00. The diplomatic corps signs from 12:00 to 15:00. Cyprus diplomatic missions worldwide open their own condolence books.
State funeral arrangements
The President and full Cabinet attend the funeral. It takes place at state expense tomorrow, Saturday 17 January at 13:00, at Church of God’s Wisdom in Strovolos. The family receives condolences at the church from 11:30.
Burial follows at Aglantzia Municipal Cemetery.
The government declares 17 January a public holiday.
