Small reductions in fuel prices in Cyprus are expected in the coming period, according to the Consumer Protection Service, which continues to monitor developments in international oil markets.
Director of the Consumer Protection Service, Konstantinos Karagiorgis, told the Cyprus News Agency that while the authority avoids making direct forecasts, current indicators suggest that fuel prices in Cyprus are likely to see slight decreases, especially in diesel.
He explained that the service closely monitors daily data from the international market and import pricing trends to assess movements in fuel prices.
International market volatility
Karagiorgis noted that despite the positive indications, there is still “uncertainty and nervousness” in global oil markets.
He linked this volatility to developments and statements surrounding the war in Iran, which continue to affect crude oil prices and refinery costs, contributing to fluctuations in fuel prices.
He added that recent declines in Platts pricing are expected to gradually reflect in retail prices, particularly for diesel, in the near future.
This means consumers may soon see a modest easing in fuel prices, although the extent and duration remain uncertain due to external market pressures.
Consumer protection monitoring
The Consumer Protection Service stressed that it is closely monitoring market developments and will not allow practices that could harm consumers.
Karagiorgis reassured the public that oversight mechanisms remain active to ensure fair pricing and transparency in fuel prices in Cyprus.
