Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the violent assault of five Pafiakos volleyball players, following a police investigation into a case involving conspiracy to commit a felony, grievous bodily harm, rioting, and other related offences.
According to the police, the incident occurred early Saturday morning in Paphos, when the players exited a nightclub and were attacked by a group of young men on a nearby street. The assailants fled the scene after bystanders intervened. The victims sought medical attention at Paphos General Hospital, where they received first aid and were discharged. Two of the players suffered nasal fractures and abrasions, while the remaining three sustained minor injuries.
Based on evidence and witness statements, two 21-year-olds and two 24-year-olds were arrested under court warrants and remain in custody as investigations continue. The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is leading the inquiry.
In an official statement, the Board of Directors of Kuutio Homes Pafiakos strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly, organised, and completely unacceptable act of violence, carried out without any provocation. The club emphasised the outrageous nature of such an incident occurring in a country that aspires to be governed by the rule of law, especially against athletes who had just secured a championship title and were peacefully leaving a nightclub.
Five players were injured in the assault, two of whom suffered serious injuries. The club denounced any attempts to downplay the incident as a mere altercation or misunderstanding, insisting it was a clear act of criminal violence that demands exemplary punishment.
Pafiakos vowed not to remain silent or allow any cover-up, stressing that the safety of its athletes is non-negotiable. The club called on the Police, the Judiciary, and all responsible authorities to identify, arrest, and prosecute all perpetrators without exception, regardless of their identity or background.
In conclusion, the Board declared:
“Pafiakos stands united and will not be intimidated or silenced. Tolerance for violence ends here.”
