A school shooting in Turkey left at least 16 people injured after an 18-year-old former student opened fire at a vocational high school in Siverek, in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa.
According to Governor Hasan Sildak, the attacker used a shotgun and fired randomly at students and staff before hiding inside the school building.
He later committed suicide using the same weapon after being cornered by police.
Students and teachers among the injured
The attack wounded 10 students, four teachers, a canteen employee and a police officer.
Most of the injured were treated at a hospital in Siverek, while five individuals – including students and teachers – were transferred to a hospital in Sanliurfa due to more serious injuries.
Police response and evacuation
Police special operations units were deployed to the scene after the suspect refused to surrender.
Authorities confirmed that all students were safely evacuated from the school during the incident.
Video footage showed dozens of students fleeing the premises in panic as the situation unfolded.
Motive remains unclear
Officials said the motive behind the school shooting in Turkey has not yet been determined.
Governor Sildak stated that a “comprehensive” investigation will be carried out to establish the circumstances of the attack.
