Forest firefighters strike cancelled after an agreement was reached

Date:

Agreement reached before walkout

The planned 48-hour strike by forest firefighters scheduled for today has been cancelled after an agreement was reached on employment terms and the service plan for forest firefighters, according to trade union OEKDY SEK.

In a statement, the union said that “an agreement has been achieved and the 48-hour strike of forest firefighters will not take place. The employment terms and the Service Plan will be implemented.”

Further dialogue planned

It was also noted that both sides agreed to hold further dialogue next October regarding issues that have arisen.

The cancellation of the strike avoids potential disruption as Cyprus enters a critical period for wildfire preparedness during the summer months.
