FM calls for OSCE’s support in Cyprus candidacy for Presidency

Date:

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos has called upon the states of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to support Cyprus’ candidacy for the OSCE Presidency in 2027.

According to an official press release, Kombos participated in the OSCE Ministerial Meeting, which is taking place in Malta. In his intervention at the General Debate at the Ministerial Meeting, he thanked the Maltese Presidency for its work in 2024 and welcomed Finland, which will assume the Chair of the Organisation in 2025. He also referred to the main challenges facing the OSCE and the need to effectively address them.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to the candidacy of the Republic of Cyprus for the OSCE Presidency for 2027. Cyprus, he stressed, officially presented its candidacy to the OSCE participating states to assume the Presidency of the Organisation for 2027, providing a way out of the issue arising from the absence of a decision on the Presidencies from 2026 and onwards.

Our decision constitutes a responsible stance and an expression of the sense of responsibility that governs our country’s participation in the OSCE, and as such we call on the OSCE participating states to support it, the Cypriot Foreign Minister said.

Furthermore, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting, the Foreign Minister held separate meetings and contacts with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
