The body found is under investigation after the remains of an adult man were discovered early Monday morning in a sea area of the Akamas peninsula.
According to police spokesperson Kyriakos Theodorou, the body was located at around 5:45 am by a 48-year-old man who had gone fishing in the area.
The fisherman immediately alerted authorities after spotting the human remains in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police and coast guard respond
Officers from the Paphos Police, along with a vessel from the Maritime Police, rushed to the scene and sealed off the area for investigations.
The body in Akamas incident is being handled by the Polis Chrysochous Police Station and the Paphos CID, with examinations ongoing.
Authorities are also considering the possibility that the deceased may be linked to the official list of missing persons.
Post-mortem to determine cause of death
Police confirmed that the exact cause of death will be determined during a post-mortem examination scheduled for Thursday.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, as efforts continue to establish who the man was and the circumstances surrounding his death.
Investigation continues
The area remains central to ongoing forensic examinations, with all standard procedures being followed.
Authorities stress that it is still too early to conclude, as investigations into the body case remain at an early stage.
