Talks between delegations from Israel and Lebanon have been described as “positive” by a US official, as negotiations continue over a ceasefire deal set to expire on Sunday.
The discussions are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts involving indirect mediation to prevent renewed escalation along the border.
US mediation role in negotiations
A US State Department official said the first day of talks was “productive and positive,” lasting from 09:00 to 17:00 local time, and confirmed that discussions would continue for a second day as planned.
The negotiations are being closely monitored by the United States, which has been involved in facilitating dialogue between both sides.
Ceasefire deadline adds pressure
The current ceasefire framework between Israel and Lebanon is due to expire on Sunday, increasing pressure on negotiators to reach an extension or updated agreement.
The talks come amid broader regional tensions, with international actors pushing for stability along the Israel–Lebanon border.
Diplomatic efforts continue
Officials said further updates are expected after the conclusion of the second day of discussions, with hopes of progress in maintaining the ceasefire arrangement.
