Limassol: Autopsy fails to determine cause of infant’s death

A post-mortem examination has been completed as part of a probe into the death of a five-month-old infant found unresponsive at a home in Limassol on Tuesday evening.

The autopsy began on Thursday morning at Nicosia General Hospital and was completed shortly before 4 pm. Further scientific tests are now expected to determine the exact cause of death.

The post-mortem was carried out by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.

According to police, samples taken from the infant will undergo histopathological, toxicological, genetic and virological examinations.

Baby found unresponsive in cot

Police said the infant was found unconscious by his mother in his cot at around 8 pm on Tuesday.

The five-month-old was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities await the results of the scientific examinations.
